Philadelphia Ramadan Timetable 2026

Muslim Hands

Ramadan Kareem from Muslim Hands USA

Ramadan is a sacred month of fasting, prayer, and generosity for Muslims around the world. It is a time to reflect, strengthen faith, and give in support of those facing hardship.

During Ramadan, Muslims give Zakat al Fitr, a required charity that purifies the fast and helps ensure families in need can take part in the joy of Eid al Fitr. Zakat al Fitr must be given before the Eid prayer so food and essential support reach those who need it most.

By giving Zakat al Fitr, you help restore dignity, ease hardship, and complete your fast with compassion.

How long does Ramadan typically last?

Ramadan tends to be 29 to 30 days.

Why do the dates of Ramadan change every year?

Unlike the Gregorian calendar, which is based on the sun, the Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle. This makes the Islamic year about 10 or 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, causing the dates of Ramadan to shift each year.

When can you eat during Ramadan?

Muslims begin their fast at sunrise after eating a pre-dawn meal (referred to as suhoor) before the morning prayers (Fajr). The fast is broken at sundown with a meal (referred to as iftar), which is eaten after the evening prayer (Maghrib).

What day is Laylatul Qadr? And when will it take place?

Laylatul Qadr is a sacred night when the first verses of the holy Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad (saw) by the Angel Jibril. Laylatul Qadr is usually commemorated on the 27th night of Ramadan, which falls on either March 16 or March 17, 2026. However, the exact date is unknown, as it could fall on any of the last 10 nights of Ramadan.

When is Eid al-Fitr?

Once the month of Ramadan is complete, the blessed day of Eid al-Fitr is celebrated. This year, Eid al-Fitr is projected to take place on Thursday, March 19 or Friday, March 20, 2026.
