The Cold Reality | Surviving Winter Appeal 2025

When Winter Becomes a Threat

Every year, winter exposes a harsh divide between comfort and survival. While many prepare their homes for warmth, families in conflict and poverty-stricken regions brace for freezing nights without shelter, food, or heat.

According to the United Nations, nearly 1 million displaced people in Gaza face extreme cold this winter, with only 23% of shelter needs met. Many live in makeshift tents or damaged buildings without insulation, heating, or protection from rain.

In Yemen, more than 19.5 million people require humanitarian assistance, and 17 million are food insecure. The UN warns that without continued aid; millions could fall deeper into hunger and exposure as temperatures drop.

And across Pakistan, rural and mountain communities experience sub-zero temperatures each winter, where poverty, weak infrastructure, and rising fuel costs leave families unable to stay warm. Thousands of children and elderly people become ill each season due to cold-related diseases such as pneumonia and respiratory infections.

The cold is not just uncomfortable, it is deadly.

What These Numbers Mean

Each statistic reflects a family struggling to survive.

  • In Gaza, constant displacement and destroyed infrastructure mean families have little more than plastic sheets and rubble to protect them.
  • In Yemen, food insecurity and fuel shortages force families to choose between heating their homes or feeding their children.
  • In Pakistan, freezing winds and uninsulated homes create impossible living conditions for millions already below the poverty line.

These crises are interconnected. The same families facing hunger are also battling the cold. Without immediate humanitarian support, winter intensifies every hardship they already endure.

How Your Support Changes Lives

Through the Surviving Winter Appeal, Muslim Hands USA delivers lifesaving relief to families across Gaza, Yemen, Pakistan, and beyond. Every donation provides warmth, nourishment, and protection to those who have nowhere else to turn.

Your giving can provide:

Faith in Action

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.” (Tirmidhi)

Your Zakat and Sadaqah offer protection and mercy to families struggling through the harshness of winter. Each act of giving is a reminder that compassion is stronger than the cold.
