Hanen Musa

The moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia, confirming that Dhul-Hijjah 2025 begins tonight, May 27th. That means the Day of Arafah will fall on Thursday, June 5th, and Eid al-Adha will be observed on Friday, June 6th, Insha'Allah.

Among the ten best days of the Islamic year, fasting on the Day of Arafah holds a special place. It's one of the most significant opportunities to have your sins forgiven, elevate your status with Allah (swt), and reap the rewards from just one day.

What Is the Day of Arafah?

The Day of Arafah falls on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah, the day before Eid al-Adha. It is the day when millions of pilgrims gather on the plains of Arafat during Hajj, standing in prayer and supplication from noon until sunset.

Even for those who are not performing Hajj, this day carries immense significance.

This is a day of forgiveness, acceptance of dua, and increased mercy. Let's use this time to pause, reflect, and reconnect with Allah.

The Virtues of Fasting on the Day of Arafah

If you could wipe away two years of sins in just one day… would you do it?

That's exactly what could happen on the Day of Arafah.

The Prophet Muhammad said:

"Fasting on the day of Arafah is an expiation for the preceding year and the following year."

(Sahih Muslim)

This is the mercy of Allah (swt); 365 days behind you and 365 days ahead can all be forgiven.

Even if you're not performing Hajj, this day still holds immense rewards. Fasting on Arafah is encouraged explicitly for those of us not on pilgrimage. It's your chance to tap into the mercy of this sacred month from wherever you are.

And it's not just about forgiveness. Fasting on Arafah also:

  • Elevates your status in the eyes of Allah
  • Deepens your connection to your faith
  • Multiplies every act of worship you do that day
  • Brings tranquility to the heart through sincere intention

Whether you're fasting, giving charity, or simply making a heartfelt dua, every effort counts.
