One Qurbani/Udhiyah is required per eligible person. Typically:
- One sheep or goat counts as one Qurbani/Udhiyah.
- One cow or bull provides seven Qurbani/Udhiyah shares (one share per person).
You can also choose to follow the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) by offering a second, additional sacrifice, known as a Prophetic Qurbani, for Muslims who cannot afford one.
"The Prophet (saw) sacrificed on behalf of those from his Ummah who could not sacrifice." (Ahmad)
This merciful tradition brings double blessings: feeding more families during Eid al-Adha and earning even greater rewards.
The type of animal used for your Qurbani/Udhiyah depends on the location you donate to:

Double your reward this Eid
The Prophetic Qurbani/Udhiyah
‘The Prophet (saw) sacrificed for the one who could not sacrifice from his Ummah, one who bore witness to the Oneness of Allah and [his] Prophethood’. [Ahmad]
The Prophet (saw) would offer an extra Qurbani/Udhiyah on behalf of Muslims who couldn’t afford to. This merciful deed would allow more people from his Ummah to share in the blessings of Eid al-Adha.
There is so much wisdom and compassion in this Sunnah – yet today is neglected. With so many families suffering this year, we are inviting you to revive this beautiful tradition!
By offering a second, Prophetic Qurbani, you will be doubling your impact, feeding more people during the blessed days of Eid al-Adha. Don’t miss out on these rewards!
Can I Give Qurbani/Udhiyah on Behalf of Someone Who Has Passed Away?
Yes, and it's a beautiful act of ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah). Giving Qurbani for a deceased loved one allows your donation to honor their memory while helping vulnerable families enjoy the blessings of Eid.
It’s one of the most heartfelt ways to give: for a parent, grandparent, friend, or anyone you wish to remember. Your sacrifice brings hope in their name.

Yes, giving Qurbani is wajib (obligatory) for every adult Muslim who is financially able, meaning they possess wealth above the Nisab threshold. Performing your Qurbani sacrifice during Eid al-Adha is an important act of worship and a way to share your blessings with families facing hunger.
‘The Prophet (saw) sacrificed for the one who could not sacrifice from his Ummah, one who bore witness to the Oneness of Allah and [his] Prophethood’. [Tabarani and Ahmad]
After fulfilling his personal obligation, the Prophet (saw) gave an additional Qurbani/Udhiyah in the name of the Muslims who could not afford to do so. We encourage all of our donors to revive this forgotten Sunnah and help more needy people.

Qurbani/Udhiyah is an obligation on all Muslims who possess wealth above the Nisab value - so if you are eligible to pay Zakat, then you must give a Qurbani/Udhiyah.
This annual sacrifice also carries the great meaning of representing the sacrifice that Prophet Ibrahim (as) was prepared to make in honour of our Creator.
Most people choose to donate in the days of Dhul Hijjah, but some will give their Qurbani/Udhiyah up to a month before Eid al-Adha. This year, Eid will most likely be on Wednesday, June 7, 2025.
As Qurbanis in each location have a set quota, we suggest you give yours as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
We only use animals that meet all Islamic guidelines:
- Goats and sheep: At least 1 year old
- Cows and bulls: At least 2 years old
- Camels: At least 5 years old
Each animal is healthy, ethically raised, and locally sourced with care.
We choose the sacrificial animals based on their availability and value in each location. Whether this is a sheep, goat or a share in a cow, the reward for your Qurbani/Udhiyah will be the same.
Muslim Hands works hard to ensure that the meat from your Qurbani/Udhiyah is distributed to those in need during the days of Eid al-Adha.
Our ‘Where Most Needed’ option ensures that your Qurbani/Udhiyah reaches those who need it most on the days of Eid.
One share per eligible Muslim.
- 1 goat or sheep = 1 share
- 1 cow or bull = 7 shares (shared among 7 people)
- 1 camel = 7 shares
You may give more shares as extra acts of worship or in memory of a loved one.
You’ll receive a confirmation email after Eid al-Adha. Our 100% Qurbani Promise ensures your sacrifice is carried out on the correct days and the meat is distributed fresh to families in need. You can also follow our live updates on social media.
No. Qurbani must be fulfilled with a separate intention and cannot be performed using Zakat. Optional Sadaqah may be used to help others fulfill their Qurbani, but not for your own obligation.
The final deadline is the third day of Eid al-Adha, but we strongly recommend donating earlier. This helps ensure your Qurbani is performed within the Islamic window and reaches those most in need on time.
You must make up for missing the Qurbani/Udhiyah by offering the market value of one sheep/goat to the poor. You can do this through Muslim Hands.
