Through fasting, we cultivate gratitude; through worship, we seek Allah's mercy; and through charity, we uplift our communities.
What is Ramadan ?
Ramadan is the holiest month in Islam, observed by millions of Muslims worldwide through fasting from sunrise to sunset- yes, not even water is consumed! But beyond abstaining from food and drink, it is an opportunity to reset, refocus, and deepen our faith. From prayer and Quran recitation to acts of charity, every moment of Ramadan brings us closer to Allah (SWT) and his boundless mercy.
This Ramadan let’s make every moment count. Are you ready?

The Fourth Pillar of Islam
In Ramadan, Sawm is one of the pillars of Islam, and it reminds us the blessings that we take for granted and the struggles of those in need.
The month of Ramadan contains the most blessed of nights, also known as Laylatul Qadr, about which
Allah (SWT) asks us:
"What will make you realize what the Night of Power is like?
The Night of Power is better than a thousand months.
Angels and the Spirit descend upon it with their Lord's permission with every command;
There is peace that night until the coming of dawn." [Quran: 97:1-5]
Why Do Muslims Fast ?
Fasting during Ramadan is not just about refraining from food and drink -it is an act of devotion, self-discipline, and gratitude. It teaches patience, strengthens faith, and cultivates empathy for those facing daily hunger and hardship.
However, Islam is a religion of ease, not hardship. Certain individuals are exempt from fasting, including:
- Children
- The elderly
- Pregnant or nursing women
- Those who are ill
- Travelers
What should I do if I or someone else can't fast in Ramadan ?
If you are unable to fast because of an illness or old age and you are unable to complete the fasts later on during the year, you can pay Fidyah.
Fidyah is a donation that is made which involves feeding a poor person twice a day for each missed fast.
Kaffarah is the compensation if you intentionally break a fast or miss a fast without a valid reason. Kaffarah is fulfilled by either fasting for 60 consecutive days or by feeding the poor twice a day for 60 days, for each broken fast.
You can pay your Kaffarah with Muslim Hands at $480 per missed fast.
Your donations will be used towards providing hot nutritious meals to some of the neediest people worldwide.
What is Zakat & Why is it Important in Ramadan?
Zakat is not just charity; it is an obligation and one of the five pillars of Islam. The word "Zakat" means "to purify," symbolizing the purification of both wealth and heart from greed.
During Ramadan, the rewards of giving are multiplied, making it the perfect time to fulfill your Zakat and support those in need.
How to Calculate My Zakat ?
Zakat must be paid on all wealth and assets that you own above a certain threshold. This is known as the nisab. Zakat is calculated at 2.5% of all total wealth above the nisab value and takes into consideration:
- Gold and silver
- Cash in hand and bank accounts
- Pensions
- Investment property
- Stocks and shares
- Money lent out
- Business stock
- Agriculture produce
All wealth must have been maintained for one lunar year before you pay Zakat.
