Qurbani/Udhiyah FAQ’s

Aisha Adam

Qurbani/Udhiyah is a time of great-reflection on the devotion of Ibrahim (as) to follow Allah’s (SWT) command. It is also a time for us to realize that everything we own in this world belongs to Allah and to Him we surrender.

Here are all your Qurbani/Udhiyah questions answered:

1. Who needs to offer Qurbani/Udhiyah?

According to Hanafi school of thought, any person who is eligible to pay Zakat needs to give Qurbani. Thus, any adult, sane Muslim who owns wealth above Nisaab value must offer a Qurbani.

2. When should I donate my Qurbani/Udhiyah?

Most people choose to give their Qurbani during the days of Dhul Hijjah, however, as quotas get filled early, we urge you to give your Qurbani as early as possible.

3. Which animals do Muslim Hands provide for sacrifice?

We select the sacrificial animals based on their availability and value in each location. Whether there is a sheep, goat or a share in a cow, the reward of your Qurbani is the same.

4. What locations do Muslim Hands offer Qurbani/Udhiyah?

This Eid-ul-Adha, we are offering Qurbani in four locations around the world: India, Mali, Pakistan and Where Most Needed. When you give to the ‘Where Most Needed’ fund, you allow our experts to allocate your Qurbani to a location where the need is highest.

5. When will my Qurbani/Udhiyah be distributed?

At Muslim Hands, we ensure that your Qurbani is conducted after Eid Salah, and fresh meat is distributed in poverty-sticken communities during the days of Eid. Rest assured that we carry out your sacrifice in the most Islamic manner.

6. What is a Prophetic Qurbani?

The Prophet (saw) used to offer an extra animal for Qurbani on behalf of the poor and needy who could not afford to sacrifice an animal for themselves. This year, you too can follow this Sunnah and give an additional animal for Qurbani. Double your impact, double your reward!

7. What should I do if I missed my Qurbani/Udhiyah?

If you have missed giving a Qurbani, you must make up for it by offering the market value of one sheep or goat to the poor. You can do this with Muslim Hands.

We pray Allah SWT accept from you and from us, Ameen.
