Learn about our Yemen Medical Clinic
The Aden (Bir-Ahmed) Clinic Assistant Project is dedicated to vindicating the severe humanitarian crisis in Aden, Yemen. The severity of the situation is such that approximately 80% of the population, totaling over 24 million people, needs urgent humanitarian assistance and protection. Aden City, Yemen, faces critical health challenges, especially with alarming rates of acute malnutrition among children under five years old. The area of southern districts like Aden is particularly vulnerable due to the ever-increasing population of refugees. Through this project, we at Muslim Hands, hope to explicitly target the Aden population by providing them with essential health and nutrition services in response to the Yemeni humanitarian crisis.
Since its establishment in July 2023, the project has benefited a total of 20,000 individuals, and the number is ever-growing. Substantial aspects of the projects have been to include its focus on strengthening the Yemeni health system. This has been significantly affected by instability, poverty, and lack of facilities. By improving healthcare accessibility and addressing critical health needs such as maternal and child health and malnutrition, the project aims to bolster the resilience of the Yemeni population. It prioritizes primary healthcare, life-saving services, antenatal and postnatal care, safe deliveries, vaccinations, and capacity-building initiatives to empower local institutions for sustainable healthcare.
Regarding statistics, according to the latest analysis by FAO, UNICEF, WFP, and partners, acute malnutrition rates among children under five in certain districts of southern Yemen, including Aden, have reached unprecedented levels. Over half a million cases of acute malnutrition were reported, with a nearly 10% increase in 2020 alone. Particularly concerning is the rise in severe acute malnutrition (SAM), which increased by 15.5%, putting approximately 98,000 children at high risk of death without immediate intervention.
