What Is Kaffarah?

  • Who is Kaffarah? Kaffarah is required when someone intentionally breaks a fast without a valid reason and cannot fast for 60 consecutive days as compensation. 

 

  • How Much? The required amount for Kaffarah is $480, which covers feeding 60 people in need as an alternative to fasting for 60 consecutive days. 

 

  • Religious Purpose: Kaffarah acts as an atonement for deliberately breaking a fast, offering a way to seek forgiveness while supporting those facing hunger. 

 

  • How It Helps: This donation ensures that 60 people in need receive nourishing meals, providing essential support to vulnerable communities

Who Must Pay The Fidyah

Fidyah is required when a person cannot fast due to valid reasons and is unable to make up the missed fasts later. The donation ensures that someone in need receives food in place of the missed fasts. 

 

Fidyah Amount

  • $240 for the full month (30 fasts) – ensures daily meals for the less fortunate.

Kaffarah is required when a person deliberately breaks a fast and is unable to fast for 60 consecutive days as atonement. Instead, they must feed 60 people in need, ensuring that their missed fast benefits the less fortunate.
