What is an all encapsulating dua?
Have you ever wondered: is there a single, comprehensive dua that encapsulates all your desires in just a few sentences?
The answer is yes! Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught his beloved wife Aisha (RA) the most encompassing du'a of all aspects of life.
Upon studying the life of the Prophet (PBUH) you realize that there was dua for every aspect of life. He (PBUH) emphasized the importance of dua as a powerful form of worship, describing it as the essence of devotion to Allah(swt). These special prophetic duas carry immense spiritual weight and can be particularly effective in seeking Allah’s help and mercy.
Translation:
O Allah, I ask You from all that is good, in this world and in the hereafter, of what I know and what I do not know. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from all evil, in this world and in the hereafter, of what I know and what I do not know. O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and for that which brings one closer to it, in word and deed. And I seek refuge in You from Hell and from that which brings one closer to it, in word and deed. O Allah, I ask You for the good that Your slave and Prophet have asked You for, and I seek refuge with You from the evil from which Your slave and Prophet sought refuge. And I ask You to make every Decree that You decree concerning me good.
This du'a is very special because it covers every type of goodness, which can be broken down into four groups: what Allah knows is best for us, what the Prophet g asked for, everything that leads to Paradise, and anything good to be destined for us.
The first part of this du'a covers everything that we want to ask Allah for, while deferring to His Perfect Knowledge as only Allah knows what is truly beneficial for us. The second part of the du’a covers every narrated du’a because we are asking for everything the Prophet (PBUH) asked for, and seeking protection from everything he sought protection from.
The third part of the du’a is thorough regarding our afterlife. It is a du’a for Paradise and protection from hellfire, specifically asking Allah for deeds and words that lead to Paradise, and for protection from deeds and words that lead to hellfire, as it has been narrated that people's speech often subjects them to punishment in the hereafter. The final part of the du’a includes everything decreed for us, which is all good for us as long as we are patient with the trials and grateful for the blessing
Thus, covering all areas of our life- both physical and metaphysical.
