Give Clean Water

Saves Lives By Donating Clean Water.

Around the world, approximately 785 million people lack access to clean water, with one in four individuals, including women, and children, endures exhausting and often dangerous journeys to collect this essential resource. Tragically, the water they bring back is frequently contaminated, causing preventable illnesses and, in some cases, even death.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “The greatest form of charity is providing clean water to those in need.” This timeless guidance inspires us at Muslim Hands to work tirelessly around the globe, implementing sustainable water projects to bring clean, safe water to communities in need.

From building reliable water wells in areas of extreme scarcity to providing training so local families can maintain them, your support ensures that the Gift of Water transforms countless lives. By reducing the daily struggle for water, we empower communities to invest in education, work towards stable livelihoods, and envision a healthier future for their families.

Your Sadaqah Jariyah donation for water provides a lasting impact. Be their source of hope, and provide clean, life-saving water.

How It Works

Once you donate, your water well is designated to the relevant partner offices

The well is either assigned to the country of your choice, or if you’ve selected ‘where most needed’, the location is determined by our experts in the field.

Our teams build your water well in the community with greatest need

After establishing relationships with communities and carrying out needs assessments, our officers on the ground determine exactly where to build the wells

You receive a feedback report to show the impact of your donation

Once your well is constructed, expect to receive a comprehensive report with images and more information about the community you have helped

Where are the water wells built, and can I select a specific location to support those in greatest need?

We build tube wells, community wells, and dig-a-wells in Mali, Niger, Senegal, Gambia, and Pakistan. You can choose which location you would like your well to be built in. If unsure, select the “Where Most Needed” option and let our team of experts pick a location for you based on your current needs.

What’s the difference between Tube Wells, Dig-A-Wells, and Community Wells, and which option benefits the most people?

We facilitate three types of wells: Tube Wells, Dig-A-Wells, and Community Wells.

Tube Wells [$310]: These wells are installed at the household level, serving 2-3 families. They are manually operated and can lift water from 30m below ground.

Dig-A-Wells [$950]: These wells are installed in a communal area serving about 200 people or 35 families. They draw water from 131 feet below ground and are ideal for small communities that rely on agriculture and farming.

Community Wells [$4000]: These are our largest wells, serving a community of roughly 1,000 people. The wells are 5 feet wide and draw water from around 33 feet beneath the ground. They are ideal for providing clean drinking water, farming, agriculture, and livestock.

How does Muslim Hands decide on the exact well location to maximize impact for water-scarce communities?

We work with various expert partners on the ground in each location. These partners help to carry out periodic assessments, taking a detailed profile of each community and determining their needs. They work with the community leaders to decide what types of wells and how many need to be constructed in each area.

How long does it typically take to complete and deliver each life-saving water well?

While we strive to complete well projects within a 6-month timeframe, please note that this timeline may be affected by unforeseen weather conditions. Specifically, for wells donated between June and September, adverse weather may cause delays, and the standard 6-month completion window may not apply. We will do our best to keep you informed of any potential delays and will ensure the project is completed as soon as possible once conditions allow.

Will I receive feedback on my donation, and when can I expect a report on the well’s impact?

Yes. You will receive personalized ‘feedback reports’ after completing your well. These reports will give you more details about the project, pictures of the well, and information about the beneficiaries.

The Best
Sadaqah

‘The Messenger of Allah (saw) was asked, “Which charity is best?” He replied, “[Providing] water”’. [Abu Dawud]

We use water for everything, from washing dishes to cooking food to growing crops. Allah says in the Qur’an, ‘By means of water, we give life to everything. (Qur’an, 21:30)

Having access to safe water is a basic human right and fulfilling this right is an excellent Sadaqah Jariyah.

Safe Water Fund

In Their Name

On the authority of Sa‘d bin ’Ubadah that he said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Umm (mother of) Sa‘d has died, so which charity is best?’ He (saw) replied, ‘[Providing] water’. He (ra) said, ‘So [Sa’d] dug a well and said, “This (well) is for Umm Sa‘d”’. [Abu Dawud]

We often remember those who are no longer with us, why not build a well in their name and honour their legacy.
