What Is Muharram?

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ described Muḥarram as the “Month of Allah” (Muslim 1163)

The Islamic New Year Begins with Mercy and Meaning
It's the first month of the Islamic calendar and one of the four sacred months mentioned in the Qur’an. The word Muharram comes from the Arabic root meaning “forbidden,” reminding us that this is a time when fighting and harm are to be avoided.

For many Muslims, Muharram is a deeply spiritual month, a time to reflect, reconnect with faith, and honor the legacy of justice.

From the courage of Imam Hussain (RA) at Karbala to the deliverance of Prophet Musa (AS), Muharram carries stories of sacrifice, truth, and divine mercy.

Giving Sadaqah in Muharram carries extra reward. It is a sacred time to fast, pray, and give generously.

While we reflect on the struggles of the Prophets, we’re reminded that true faith shows through action. Giving Sadaqah during Muharram is a way to honor that legacy.

Whether you support orphans, provide clean water, or send emergency aid to Gaza or Yemen, your charity today brings mercy into the lives of others.

Start the Islamic New Year 1447 AH with a gift that echoes the values of Muharram: compassion, courage, and hope.
